CHICO, California. - For the first time, the city of Chico will allow marijuana dispensaries.
The Chico City Council approved the cannabis ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting. The ordinance passed with a 5 to 2 vote. The dissenting votes came from Sean Morgan and Kasey Reynolds.
Dozens of residents showed up at Tuesday's meeting to speak out for and against dispensaries. Supporters said the cannabis businesses was long overdue and will fill a need in the community.
City officials and an ad hoc committee have been working on crafting the ordinance for two years, led by Vice Mayor Alex Brown.
